Why logins get blocked
The usual triggers: suspected compromise (a login from a new device or location, a SIM swap), a dispute over ownership of the account, repeated failed login attempts, or a data mismatch during re-verification of your identity.
Unlocking your account step by step
- Use the official account recovery form, and only from the email address the account is registered to. Enquiries from other addresses create parallel cases and slow everything down.
- Identity confirmation: the document you submitted at KYC, a selfie check, and questions about the account's history.
- Check for compromise on your side: change your email password, review forwarding rules and active sessions — if the lock was triggered by an attack, the platform will ask about this.
- If your 2FA is lost (phone or key), the 2FA reset runs as a separate track and takes longer: allow up to two weeks.
If recovery stalls
After two refusals, or three weeks with no movement, send a written letter of claim: a login block does not entitle the platform to hold your assets indefinitely. If the account also carries a restriction on transactions, see our guide to the restricted status — a related but separate procedure.
Frequently asked questions
How do I unlock my Coinbase account?
Through the official recovery form: identity confirmation plus questions about the account's history. The typical timeframe runs from 48 hours to two weeks where a 2FA reset is involved.
Will my funds disappear while the account is locked?
No: a login block does not touch the assets. They stay in the account until access is restored.
